How to Make an adorable Tardis Card in just 11 easy Steps
The TARDIS stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space and it is from a television show on BBC called Doctor Who. If you don't know what that is, you should go check it out.
Today I'm going to show you all how to make a pop-out tardis card.It will (hopefully) look something like this when you are all done with it:
The materials you will need are: (as pictured)
- 1. a printout of the interior of the tardis (printable version available in post)
- 2. A paper cutter
- 3. Double-sided sticky tape (or glue dots)
- 4. Tardis Blue Cardstock
- 5. White Printer Paper or cardstock (can be leftover scrap) (I used cream)
- 6. Optional: Black Paper
- 7. Optional: Silver Permanent Marker
- You may also want:
- A pencil
- An eraser
- A pair of scissors
Step 1: Cut out a 8x6 piece (or larger but you will have to modify all proceeding dimensions)
Step 2: Fold it in half
Step 3: Take the pencil and scissors and get ready to draw...
3.a. Draw a perpendicular line 1inch down from the top
3.b. Now draw another line, parallel to the previous line but above the previous line 3/8ths of an inch.
3.c. Now another line, parallel to the first two lines but only 1/8 of an inch above the last one.
3.d. Repeat step 3.c. again
3.e. Now draw a line in the top corner 1/4th of an inch from the side
3.f. Now repeat with the other side
3. g. Next, take the second level and draw a line another 1/4th of an inch from the side.
3. h. Repeat on other side
3. i. Find the middle and make a mark (the middle should be two inches in from either side)
3. j. Draw a section 1/4th of an inch long around the center - this will become the light.
3. k. make a diagonal line from the edge of the top line to the edge of the light (see pictures)
3.l. Repeat on the other side.
Step 4: Erase all extra markings so your outline forms. It should look like this:
Step 5: Cut the outline.
Step 6: Now erase all pencil lines
Optional: Make a Police Public-call Box Sign. Size the black paper to the second level and cut. Write "POLICE Public-call BOX" in metallic marker. Attach with glue dots or double-sided tape.
Step : Cut out 1 1/2 inch squares from the tardis-colored cardstock. Make 4 in blue then 2 in white.Step 8: Next make small strips of cardstock.
Step 8. a. Attach double sided tape to the back. Save the rest of the tape for the other strips of blue paper. Size the strips of cardstock to the white squares. Make 2 with blue cardstock arranged as shown.
Step 9: attach all with double-sided tape or glue dots to the front of the card as pictured: Also add a white light 1/4 inch large to fit the top.
Step 10: Cut the interior picture out. Cut the other parts out as well. Attach the small sign to the left-side center row square.
Step 11: Now take the paper and fold in half, hot dog the hamburger.
Now take the page and bring the bottom part up to the middle to "invert the folds"
It should make a triangle edge with a white center.
repeat on the opposite side so it looks like the above photo.
Now do the same folds but with the new edges, for a total of 4 new triangular-folds (this is also called a map fold)
Side it to the card and trim off excess. Tape it to the card and open it up!
Optional: Make confetti that blows when the tardis lands
Optional: Print off the heading for the "POLICE public-call BOX sign" Then outline it with a black ink pen.
Use the little cut outs- hang a picture in the tardis
Write BAD WOLD on the back
So it looks like this:
Like these:
Use a Van Gough Card to send a message wiht it:
Or just Tardis colored stationary:
Or the leftover punched-out leaf paper:
And when you are all done- enjoy all the work you did!
Number them like these ones:
Be sure to say "Please Hand Cancel" and put on enough stamps!
Then when you send it this will be your friend:
But you'll say:
Or maybe:
Or perhaps your friend will say "it's so cute"
But then you can say:
Print this off after blowing it up to the appropriate size (by sizing to the card) The interior of the tardis will need to be trimmed slightly. Good luck and enjoy the finished product! |
